The Mother of all Snow Ramping Threads 2...

Good Move - RIP original thread, she served us well.....

All going to plan for Nevis/Coe so far, if we can get another couple of hours of steady precip out of this I will be happy. I reckon that would leave us with somewhere between 6/8 inches of fresh which will do as a base for further falls.

sorry guys.... edited and re-posted here.

didnt see the new thread.

yip gfs has started producing some fantasy charts for the long run.... but short term does look quite good although will depend on this low shortwave feature that comes across on friday.

looks like the metoffice charts and the fax charts suggested a shortwave feature on thursday nose diving southeast across the western centres... gfs suggests it could be quite heavy/intense.

potentially quite a weekend out west being lined up!!!

what...snow

Nevis webcams looked thumbs down on sunday night. Snowline barely visble on the 2 cams showing the lower slopes Now thumbs up completely white.
SSC hut cams at CG - slight improvement.
GC webcams covered in precipitation of some sort so no idea but above posts sound good.

Met Office have just renewed their weather warning for heavy snow in the Highlands. This was due to expire at 6pm but it is now valid till 7am on Wednesday. Nevis already reporting up to 30cm new snow, that total could double by morning.

Showers will merge into longer spells of snow on high ground later this evening and tonight. Additional accumulations of 5 to 10cm are likely above 150m and perhaps as much as 15cm above 300m. Some snow may fall to low levels overnight bringing local falls of 2 to 5cm mainly in the west. The snow will ease from the south later tonight. The public are advised to take extra care and refer to 'Traffic Scotland' for further advice on road conditions.

Not so good for the east coast though. Last time I looked there was only a light covering at Cairngorm, and no snow on the road cameras east of aveimore, with the first snow showing up at drumochter. sad smiley

Yeah the little low that's now developing in the Irish Sea (see the lovely curl on sat/ radar pictures) is going to take almost the perfect track overnight, right across Scotland. The models really have done well, this feature was picked up 3-5 days ago.

Glencoe had a reported 7" of fresh this morning at carpark level by 10am. Snow then eased off but since about 3pm it has been seriously chucking it down. Very heavy precip moving up through the area, but not sure if it has crossed the ski area (heavy precip def has but the oober heavy not sure)
Road currently closed, prob due to rta other than snow going by cams.

One question...wind? MWIS has Friday pretty windy, but other sites don't see it that way.

Any opinions about Friday windspeeds? - I reckon Friday has potential to be the best day, simply because it'll take Thurs just to get pistes & lifts in order, plus not so busy as Sat usually.
