Potentially silly question: I'm coming back up to Glencpe later this week with my kids. They've had some beginners lessons on skis and boards respectively. I'd like to accompany them and want to try my new cross country skis at the same time. All beginners together. I ski and board to a high level. Are you allowed to ride the poma on cross country skis? And, does Glencoe have any rules about mixing cross country skiers with skiers and boarders on the runs?

Great pics and nice edit Stevie!

The snow yesterday at Glencoe was awful, snow biscuits everywhere on piste and off it was just ice. Bit of a shame as it had promised so much, but that's the weather for you.
Hats off to the team at Glencoe though, pisting the Spring run and later on building an actual link from the top of the T-Bar to access it (as seen in the photies above) was commendable.
Massive amounts of snow - should hopefully see the season continuing towards May!

Don't think I could go as far as awful. Happy Valley was but the rest of the mountain was good as long as you knew where to avoid. It was pretty obvious that the slick bits of shiny ice should be avoided!!

Glad you liked the video and pics - thanks

Snow much better on Saturday - what a difference a day or two makes. Real fun on Saturday!

Lovely day today, weather held off until mid afternoon before getting a wee bit cloudy. Snow up top a bit colder and easier going than the soft stuff lower down but lots of skiing left to be done. Queues were manageable, 5-10 minutes at worst.

Another great day at Glen Coe. I liked the SSC hut which is actually better than the cafe. The snow was excellent and the queues fine also.

Plenty of skiing left to do yet.

Had a cracking day yesterday.

Done a run all the way down the East Ridge early on before the sun had softened it too much and the snow was awesome. Can't beat fresh tracks on spring snow

The skin out was pretty warm with the sun on our backs though

MWIS for tomorrow say:

Southerly. Progressively strengthening from west; typically 30 mid-morning to by early evening 45-50mph with gusts locally 70mph.

Is it likely Glencoe will be fairly sheltered from winds coming from S & W?

AlanA,

We get a good degree of shelter and don't expect to have any issue with winds during opening hours tomorrow, Winds aren't forecast to pick up until after closing time. Worstcase scenario might be a slightly early close to play if stronger winds come in early so make sure and get an early start.

I had a good day today taking the family for the first time at Glencoe. My wife hasn't skied for 12 years and loved pootling up and down Mug's Alley. The kids have had a couple of lessons skiing and boarding respectively at Braehead. So, we took them up and down Old Mug's Alley. It was better than the Plateau Poma as it was a wee bit steeper which helped in the softer snow.

Question. I board but couldn't work out how to help take my 8 year old up the poma on his board. Any tips?

Just had a superb weekend at Glencoe. Skied lots of powder runs all over the mountain with Paraffin today. What a friendly lot you are. Really enjoyed it and still massive amounts of snow. Lapped spring run, flypaper and Rannoch glades down to the top of the access chair again and again. Without doubt the most fun and most challenging skiing I've done all season. Brilliant stuff.

Survived the wilder than expected night in the tent and was well rewarded for it!

^Deep and wide cover to the base of the Cliffhanger on Mugs Alley and down the Canyon and Wall Crossover.

^Main Basin getting refreshed by ground drifting all day.

^Very glad I turned away from the Access Chair and far out on the Plateau for the last run and headed down the Blue Access Run. Worth every step of the 5 min hoof down the Red Bike Track, untouched wind packed fresh!

Sunday 12 April. Best day of the season so far. Great time with Peter S. Mind blowing first tracks just about everywhere all day long.
Glencoe staff and the terrain really make this a great place to ski. Let us all keep it going for as long as the season will last by continuing to support this very special ski hill.

Ah bollocks! Made a monumentally bad decision and headed for Cairngorm instead of Glencoe for Sunday. Had 3 young kids who are all perfectly capable of skiing Glencoe, but I thought that they'd be many more snow showers hitting Glencoe making for kiddie unfriendly blizzards despite the degree of shelter that GC gets. As it turned out wind kept all but Cas and train off at CGM but tickets still full price. So didn't ski at all as simply not worth price in what remained pretty windy conditions all day. Next time!
