Andy28, We'll have a better idea later today. It's looking like it will be very windy overnight but wind due to die down at some point in the morning.

Maybe wrong thread, but maybe Andy M could comment on Glencoe's policy towards day ticket discounts for SSS affiliated ski club members. My Family are members of the Gordon Skiers based at the Lecht. This Easter, we skied at Cairngorm, Nevis and Glencoe and only Glencoe wouldn't apply a 10% discount. We didn't ski Glenshee or the Lecht (not surprisingly), but they definitely offer the 10% discount also. Grateful for feedback. Thank you.

Dunc,

Sorry if we haven't articulated our new policy very clearly, we have been attempting to ensure customer numbers are more evenly spread though out the whole week and to this end have discounted midweek tickets. This year that meant a £7 midweek saving (from £32 to £25). Along with that policy we made the decision that other discounts would only apply to midweek tickets. No discounts at weekends. If you visit midweek and outwith holidy periods club membership discounts will be honoured. At weekends and holidays unfortunately not. I appreciate this won't suit everyone but it has been done with the very best intentions of spreading customer numbers and trying to provide a better experience for everyone.

Andy,
Thank you for your prompt feedback. No other centre provides feedback like Glencoe. We are a family of 5. School age kids can only ski on weekends or in the holiday periods, so for us Glencoe becomes the most expensive centre of them all (due to no 10% discount). I can understand trying to get more in midweek, but for families with school age kids that discount would certainly help a bit. Sorry, should get back to talking about the SNOW.

Hi Peter,
I am glad you explained those lapse rates to me.
Looks like a great forecast for the coming weekend. Should be another happy bunch at Glencoe. :-)

High Pressure, light winds and plenty of Sunshine - that's the outlook for Friday through the weekend, so get up and take advantage of the weather for some cracking spring riding while you can:

^Main Basin still wide and deep.

^The Spring Run living up to it's name.

The torrential rain on Tuesday penetrated the temporary repairs to the Summit Hut and the top webcam is full of water! Hope to get it back online tomorrow morning with a replacement camera.

Hi Igloo4you (Andy)
I missed getting a season pass this year. I like to get an early start and sometimes walk / skin up before the ticket office opens. Which then restricts me to staying out of bounds later in the day. With the weather being stable, what are the chances of buying tickets in advance for an early start Sunday?
Cheers

Great day today as always at the 'Coe, but the lack of pisting was a bit suprising first thing.

Yesterday's spring snow had firmed up overnight under clear skies and took until lunchtime to fully soften in the sun. Yet the Main Basin was only pisted 2 cats wide, and the top of Happy Valley only 1 cat wide. The snow on these lines was great from the start, but come off them and the I found it very unforgiving. Problem was, as the morning progressed it was increasingly difficult to tell the pisted spring snow from yesterday's firm snow, until the whole lot softened around lunchtime.

Last time I was at the 'Coe I was very impressed at the width and quality of the pisting on the Main Basin, but I feel today's offering fell quite a bit below that. I understand the guys were building the jumps for tomorrow, and there's been a fair bit of patching to do (the survival of the Poma track seems remarkable), but another spin round the Main Basin wouldn't have taken long?

Different story after lunch though, the whole of the mountain was fantastic fun!

Muzza, You hit the nail on the head, not possible to do everything and only a small window of opportunity at the moment when the snow is firm enough for groomers to be out and about, that time is currently being used for patching the uptrack and Mugs Alley. We continue to do the best we can but late season it's often difficult to groom as machines often just churn the snow up and make things worse. The machines can groom nicely on the way down the hill but then when heading back up just churn the snow back up again. Work in the park was being done with the winch but even that was churning the snow up at times. Not safe to use the winch on open slopes while public around so unfortunately you may just have to learn to enjoy the natural conditions and move around the mountain to enjoy the stuff that softens first.
