On the topic of public reports, it usually doesn't feel worth it. Public reports are hidden away while Alan's own reports get prime estate on many pages. The photo size limit is tiny so smartphone pics all need resized before sending and the gallery system doesn't have easy to see captions. It needs a revamp, and ideally a smartphone app so it's easy to submit while resting for lunch or before the journey home.

Unfortunately the reason public reports photos don't automatically appear on the snow report pages is initial abuse to use the public reports system to put inappropriate content directly onto the busiest pages of the site.

The other issues are constrained at present due to hosting resources and the need for ever more storage, 20GB of storage has been added this season and it's about to run out! Also image that is 2400px tall requires 4x the processing power of a 1200px one, a 4800px high image requires 16x the processing power of the 1200px image.

Both require processing and archive storage to be moved off the main site server, at present we are beginning to think that simply having a media dump where people can upload media files and site admin sort them out might ultimately be the best way to deal with the issue of public reports vs WH's Pix from the Slopes, and also allow for people to send in video clips.

The app option is being considered for the replacement iPhone app, also exploring the implications of Facebook integration so people can post to timelines via the Public Reports system - but the easier it is to upload lots of big images, the bigger the hosting headache becomes! Thoughts of those who do, used to, don't but might use the Public Reports or send in photos in the future are welcome?

I regularly post after most of my trips. I have definitely noticed a drop off in number of reports this, which I guess must be impacting traffic to the site and therefore advertising revenue. The pics and reports cheer me up during the winter to it's a pity the number has dropped off.

is there a way to have uploaded reports automatically shared to the fecebook page of registered users? not the report but a link to the report - hence drawing traffic in to the site (essential for keeping advertising revenue up).

Is there a way to scan new photos uploaded and automatically reduce the size? I can see how the size of even camera photos today - around 5MB - will quickly chew away your 20GB. I guess for many the requirement to resize the photos will put them off posting.

Another idea may be opening up a Flickr account for folks to post to - e.g.glencoe-2016-photos user etc - and "outsource" the storage for free?!

Monday fun was delayed while some early wind subsided. But we were good to go by 10 with Cliffy, Wall and Main Basin running, after a walk across the plateau.

Kudos to GCM for reducing the price on the last day to £20, despite it being a holiday. They were rewarded with a nearly full car park of happy punters. Weather was great until about 3 with sunshine and light winds then cloud and flatter light after that. No real queues at Cliffy or Wall, with Main Basin having 5-10 min waits all day, but with good queue management by the lifties. Did anyone else notice the guy in the Main Basin motor casing all afternoon? I assume he was keeping it running when other centres might have shut it.

The snow was fantastic for this time of year with everything open above mid mountain. An amazing end to the season.

Only grumble were the rocks increasingly poking through about a quarter of the way up the Wall uptrack which might have benefited from a few shovelfuls of snow, however these are to be expected at this time of year.

This was my 7th day at Glencoe this season and I've had a ball every day. Thanks to all of the team for all their efforts which allow the rest of us to have such fun.

It was good to have a chat with Andy at the summit and hear about just how much they've got in mind for the future. Looking forward to seeing seeing things come to fruition over the next few seasons.

didnt see him, but at one point early on the t-bar started rolling backwards, two of us were sharing a t-bar and we couldt stop, i fell off, went a good 10-15 meters back down the hill at some speed. wonder if that had something to do with it

everyone else who was on a t-bar to themselves didnt fall off though!

Great weekend.
Public report here
[www.winterhighland.info]
Monday morning, a great bunch of super keen and talented riders had an impromtu session on the Canyon kicker. If anyone would like full resolution images with sequences of up to 7 images of themselves or someone they recognise, please email me at davie.sanderson1@gmail.com
Great end to a great season. I am sure I saw a tear or two under people's goggle on the last run down.
Many thanks to all the staff at Glencoe for a great season.

Hi Sspiers,

thank you for the positive comments about the photos. My first attempt at action shots - so I was lucky.
This season at Glencoe has been exceptional for me and have really enjoyed meeting regulars and non-regulars.
I think you met PeterS when we were both up at Glencoe?

Some of the Freeriders have spoke to Andy Meldrum about putting on a summer bump camp in the main basin.

You're more than welcome. Yes I met PeterS last Saturday (2nd May) - good to meet people in real life!

A summer bump camp? Mogul training? Wow what a great idea that would be!

Keep at the photos, I personally found the more I take the better I got. A lot of it has to do with the right kind of light, and of course having a bunch of maniacs helps :-) My snow season photos cheer me up all year

Heavy snow showers merging together at times today at Glencoe, with snow falling below the top of the Access Chair and someone's got fresh tracks on the Spring Run on the 28th of May!

Great day at Glencoe yesterday. Snow cover is just amazing for the time of year - it's possible to ski almost back to The Wall tow and Cliffy Chair!

The sun came out and the snow was heavy - with about 4" of warmed up, very recent fresh at the top - but not as sticky as we had feared. Great fun overall with fresh tracks available in the Main Basin and Spring Run. Saw about five or six other skiers and boarders - plus two mental mountain bikers who were having a tough time sinking into the snow on their descent of the Main Basin.

The fresh snow ended up well tracked across the mountain due to volume of traffic.

There's more snow than on the same weekend last year. We skied Glencoe at the end of June that year...Could a July slide be on the cards??
