Cross-country trails at Glencoe 21/22 March
Date Posted: 17.16hrs on Sat 14 Mar 15
There is a plan to groom 1-2km of skate track at Glencoe over the weekend 21/22 March. Glencoe ski centre have kindly offered to groom a skate track for us on the plateau area. We plan to have these ready by lunchtime on Sat 21st. We won't be grooming any classic track but we may ski in some tracks.

On the Sunday we will try to hold a informal race over this track. The trails are open to all cross-country skiers. You can either hike up or use the access chairlift (£10/£5). This is an initiative of the Snowsport Scotland Nordic Committee & this year is a low-key trial of this idea with a view to maybe making it an annual event. Many years ago Western Track SC used to hold races on the plateau.

We would like to thank Andy Meldrum at Glencoe Mountain for making this happen.

If you have any questions you are free to email me at huntlynordicsc@yahoo.co.uk

Regards, Peter

Great plan. Hope it goes well.

We were discussing this last year when I think they put some tracks across the plateau with the machine. There are plenty of areas in the Alps that do this so it makes sense to allow some keener cross-country skiers get some runs in later in the season. Not sure how it fits with the whole getting away from it ethos of cross-country. Maybe there isn't one!

A big thank you to Andy Meldrum and his staff for grooming a 2.1km skate track at Glencoe over the weekend. He even organised some fantastic weather. Skiers from Huntly, Edinburgh & Glasgow took advantage of some excellent conditions. I've put a whole bunch of photos on the Huntly Nordic Ski Club Facebook page:
