As per my last posting I visited Mount Psiloritis on Crete last week. I didn't manage to walk to the summit (2456m), as it turned out to be a more ambitious trip than I expected due to the remaining snow (and also the fairly serious drive to the mountain from the coast). I did walk up to an altitude of about 1500m on its eastern flanks though, to a feature called the Idaean cave.
I found it quite surprising to find so much snow on the mountain in mid-May given its low latitude of 35N (first photograph), and the size of the snowpatch I encountered at the mouth of the cave at the relatively low altitude of 1500m was unexpected (second photograph).
