At Glenshee there is a new rope tow of some description to avoid the trachle between the top of Sunnyside chair and the Cluny Pomas.

A very sensible spend and they've actually started the installation. Surprised and delighted by this news.

A very genuine "well done" to Glenshee who do seem to be learning.

CML are extending the West Wall Poma uphill so that it offloads at a new fixed return station (as opposed to the current floating bullwheel), this will be situated just on the uphill side of the track that leads into the Ptarmigan Bowl. From the plans on the Highland Council website it does look as if this might rival the top of the Carpark Tow for entertainment value!

Given you can reach all other lifts on the mountain from the West Wall Poma's existing unload point, then replacing the boardwalk would be of considerably more benefit with regards to the usability of the Ciste side of the mountain and it wouldn't result in beginners having another tow track to cross to reach the Ptarmigan Bowl.

With regards to Coire na Ciste, it is now almost 10years since a group of season ticket holders met with Bob Kinnaird regarding the uplift situation in Coire na Ciste and snowmaking. That meeting lead to the big 'open forum' meeting in December 2006.

After 10 years of talk, the gas axing of the Aonach Poma, removal of the boardwalk, is it unreasonable to conclude that CML has no interest in the full snowsports area?

In Cairngorm Mountains' recent 'A Letter from our General Manager' email, Cairngorm have announced that they will be replacing all of the old style snow fencing with the new post and rail type over five years. Does anyone know what is due to be replaced this year?

Also, the email mentions investing in snow making infrastructure. However it is not clear whether this will just mean an extended hydrant network for fan guns or whether they are thinking of an automatic snow making system.

Hope the Fencing goes better this year.......

Last year the Operator ran out of money...and the Fencing Contractor was heaved off the Hill !

They also ran out of money for some other Projects !

And too much was spent on the new tow/washing line sorting out the Groundworks cock-ups made by the Civils Contractor !

Manager wifey speaks with forked tongue ?...Dozens of hours of Snowmaking time were lost this past Season, primarily due to flawed Management decisions !

Maybe NR are hoping on conning HIE again and getting money off them ?

The Lecht unveiled their 'Penguin Park' during the season just finished, this includes a number of features for kids learning, but also a rotary wheel for first timers and a new rope tow which can be ridden either side (better for boarders). So next year will be the first full year of these.

The Lecht are planning to install a covered magic carpet that will replace the Robin (and possibly Wren) handle tows, increasing the capacity and making it quicker / easier for learning.

When the snow is reasonable, given the Cafe right overlooking such a well equipped and ideal beginner area, the Lecht is moving further ahead as the place to learn and bring youngsters.

I was up the hill today at the Coe, here are some pics of the work being done

(1) the cafe is being extended - I understand new toilets being added and a new kitchen being built

(2) new fencing on Mugs alley and the Wall in this pic (also new fencing on plateau)

For reference this is the link:

I note that the new Glencoe chair is referred to as the Skyfallchair. I also wonder how "official" the information is, it wouldn't surprise me if it's based on community reports rather than official information. Andy M has stated that the new GC chair is planed for next Summer, so I think we can trust that, but without corroboration I wouldn't fully trust the Meall Odhar date. That said, since it is partially grant funded, there is probably a deadline by which the money has to be spent.
