Nevis Range Snow 2018/19

A few photos in Pix from the Slopes from a day on Aonach Mor putting in new gear for the Summit webcam, early indications from the new network equipment much more promising than last winter for signal strength!

The front of mountain webcams are up and running, but the Braveheart Cams will be offline until after the Gondola maintenance period.

Was a couple of tourers about and some tracks in evidence. Summit Runs were actually complete thanks to the new rail fences, both the tow and the runs on the summit have new fencing in their entirety. It really has been a huge 2 summers of fencing at Nevis Range and the difference was already clear to see last year on Yockies and the Alpha Tow.

A covering of snow on the Summit after a big drop in temperature last night. All eyes on where the high pressure goes as the effects of a Sudden Stratospheric Warming begin to filter down into the troposphere.

Nice to see Nevis Range catching a lot of snow, they will be opening tomorrow offering summit runs to bottom runs.

With the nevis range catching a decent bit of snow. im just wondering. ive never been to Nevis before, so no idea on the runs they have there and how they compare to where I normally ski, Glencoe.

Last year, I was hitting the top runs down from the summit, main basin and Happy Valley. main basin being a decent bit steeper at the bottom 1/3 than the top.

Ive just looked at the piste map of Nevis and a couple videos of the Goose Run/inside edge (I guess these form a nice wide piste when sufficient snow) and the rabbit run, which seem like a couple of the longer runs they have there. Also the Far west/ The fairway which is served by the chair.

How do these 2 and other runs compare to the higher level skiing they have at Glencoe?? I know judging gradients is very hard on videos to thats why ive come to ask you guys.

I just dont want to commit to a longer trip to nevis if the terrain is going to be vastly more difficult for a experienced beginner/early intermediate skier.

Cheers

Just back home from a day at Nevis Range. Great weather, clear sky, no wind and yes snow from summit to bottom. However, it was difficult skiing with narrow runs (one piste basher wide), such as the reds down the Goose and the blues around the quad-chair.

Best runs were the summit and down the Rabbit from the top of the alpha-button. Sadly the summit lift broke down at 3.00.

Good to get out for the first time this season, but I won't be heading back until there's a good dump to cover the rocks and allow for wider grooming.

If you going with a novice, I'd say don't as it was hard going and was glad I didn't have my son with me this time.

Hello Carsey, last year in January when I couldn't make it to Glencoe, as it was full to the maximum capacity in the carpark so rather than wasting a trip, I decided to head over to Nevis Range which was also very busy but I just about managed to find a space in the car park.

The runs at Nevis Range are definitely more challenging than Glencoe other than the flypaper which I have not tried, Glencoe offers far better choice of green runs compared to Nevis Range.

I was at Nevis yesterday and would agree with the above report. Great on summit but thin in other areas....good to be out though!.
I came down warrens which was challenging but had plenty of snow.

Convective snow showers proving to be more widespread, persistent and heavier (and lasting much further across land) than expected, means they've been piling into Nevis and its snowing down to the sea in Fort William.

Nevis Range definitely still had "early season conditions" on offer yesterday, but hopefully the thaw/freeze cycle will start to put a proper base in place for any future snow.

On the plus side, they've already got a decent park setup on Linnhe, beside the top station.

Good evening all!

Finally registered after being a guest poster on and off for a while.

We are up in fort William next week and are hoping for a few days sliding.
Looks like a lot of snow has been lost and the forecast isn't great.
However with some wintry showers late weekend/early week and them trying to get the upper goose and summit on, we may just get away with it..
Pretty sure the crap weather won't affect the local ale...😂

PS - Glencoe maybe an option too. Haven't been for years.

I'm having a hard job spotting that, but the forecast for this evening and tomorrow is a little more promising than of late
