Aberdeenshire Council has earlier this month granted full planning permission for a new double unit snow factory with around 2.5 to 3x the capacity of the existing single container TechnoAlpin unit.

This will be installed adjacent to the Kassbohrer garage and workshop, with new snow distribution pipes to be installed under the A939 and the car park. A supplemental HVO generator will be installed at the workshop to top up wind turbine/mains power as required for snow making operations.

Positioning the new unit at this location means it will be away from the Base Lodge, while also freeing up the existing water supply pipes to feed more water to the fan guns (and there should be more power available too).

That sounds brill, although I'm curious as to where the funding is coming from.

Whats the latest on this? Is the new Snowfactory due to go in for this season?

There is an upgrade to the electrical supply on site currently in progress, so work has started. Even if the new factory isnt in place, they should be able to run more fan guns too.
