If you're up top around mid-day, give me a wave. I might be on Macdui, from the Derry side, to see what patches are hanging on there.

Some nice bright weather in morning & early afternoon possibly.

HTH:

Camped up in that area on Wednesday night (during ML training). Still big patches (100m+ vertical) on the east face of Macdui. Probably the biggest patches we saw in 2 days of hiking around there.

A midsummer jaunt onto the snow covered slopes of Meall a'Bhuiridh. Descents of Main Basin and Spring Run. Spring Run was excellent. Sunshine, shorts, no rain or midges or queues. Met Davey and his apprentice who had beaten us to the freshies. Weather not looking good for tomorrow (Sunday). Also see backcountry report for today.

Stevomcd: Was really worth the effort. - Great snow, and the overnight chill kept it firm. I made it to summit by 11am after a "dawn" start from Linn of Dee. The Garbh Uisge Mor was fantastic, so wide and managed to link about 150m vertical. - Hiked back to Sputan Dearg and found another 90-100m toward Etchachan. - Perfect summer day out.

Sign of a good season past, with East & West both having decent patches to ski in summer.

I cast an eye over to Gorm about 1:30pm, to see if I could get a long range photo of the Gorm skiers.

Gary and HTH,

Well done and thank you for sharing your pics. I hope you manage to get some more nice slides over the summer.

Greetings from the Alps,

Lionel

Looked a good day for it. Spent the morning racing at Glenmore - did 3.5km in 9min 55 around the tight glenmore track, a good time for me. Had my blades in the car but given the forecast for Sunday I decided to rollerski up the hillroad instead. So I had a nice slow skate up to the Daylodage from Glenmore.

Sunday was hill race day. The weather was foul (but not windy), it ranged from heavy drizzel to torential downpour and the midges were out in force. About 40 people in all were racing with finishes lower down the hill for the younger age groups. Some pretty good times were acheived considering the conditions. I finished somewhere close to the back in just over 34mins, I was also the only skier to do it classic style, everyone else skated it.

Just added 3 awesome photos to the gallery on H-I (massive thanks to Caroline for sending and taking them), they can be seen here:

Also uploaded a photo giving perspective to HTH's Macdui patch, taken from Beinn a' Bhuird on the 20th: here.

Cheers.

Bob Kinnaird heard through the grapevine that we'd been up on Saturday and mailed me on Monday for details for his 'Blog' [www.cairngormmountain.org.uk]

He also passed the story on to the marketing department and the result is that there's an article in this week's Strathspey and Badenoch Herald that I've attached.

Marketing were in touch but they didn't ask me who was in the photos and I didn't know which photo they were going to send .... so sorry Geoff, you have turned into Jamie

I didn't hear about it in the Times, but a work colleague cut me out the article that was in yesterday's Daily Mail which I've scanned and attached.

Bit of a shame they added the bit about the possible reduction of snowfall by over 90% by the 2080's. Not very relevant to their readers, but it still sends out a negative message
