Any suggestions for good grub places in Aviemore which are child friendly (I don't mean they serve "chicken" nuggets winking smiley )?

Roo's leap by the station (great burgers), Cairn directly opposite. harkai's good for chips and royal tandoori - a great indian next door to harkais. La Taverna buffet is good as stated above - and their a la carte is better (but my favourite food is buffet winking smiley). Old Bridge inn also great but still closed after the floods i think

the Glen hotel in newtonmore (south end of village) does great food and pints

Skiing doo and La taverna good with bairns. Good food and 'understanding' staff. Also the Boat House at Loch Insh for lunchtime grub.

the cairngorm brewery beer is excellent
you can get it in "the winking owl" and cairngorm hotel
also old bridge inn (but thats closed due to flood damage)

you can buy beer from the brewery on a weekday - we often get a polybin of it, or cask, and bottles from local shops - off licenes- & tesco?

Mmmm, brewery is very close to where I am staying this weekend. Might have to pop in a free tour at 2.30pm tomorrow.

BTW: Thanks for the foodie advice, but.....will they serve "Mince and Tatties" smiling smiley ?

you dont tend to get the cairngorm beer in the offy or tescos, so the brewery is your best bet - there or the rothiemurchus estate shop on the ski road, and probably in the forestry commission visitor centre at glenmore.

it's good stuff allright - stag, trade winds or sheep shaggers gold being among the favorite varieties

Mini review:

Mambos (lunch): good soup and sandwichesm, but other food available. Kids meals inc chicken nuggest (contains real chicked breast smiling smiley ) approx £3 inc drink. Free wireless internet access and 2 pool tables upstairs. Food served till 8.30pm.

Winking Owl (dinner): Nice friendly place, which looks asthough it is frequented by locals aswell as (regular) visitors. Nice variety of homecooked food and good variety of beers. Kids menu £5 for 2 courses inc drink. Pool table and bar football downstairs. No kids after 8pm.

Happy Haggis by Harkais (dinner): Excellent fish and chips - cod and haddock choices, sit in option available (which we opted for) and has a drinks licence including selling local Cairngorm Brewery bottled beer. Visit before 6pm and get a "Fish Tea" for £6. Reasonable kids' menu available. No kids after 8pm.

Cairngorm Brewery: "BLESSED THISTLE" available in Tesco.

Other "local" beer which I would recommend is "Black Isle" beers esp "Blonde". Also available in Tesco. Black Isle beers are organic and for some reason they don't seem to give me a hangover smiling smiley

I have tried a few of the Cairngorm brewery beers and found most of the ones I tried very good, Wasnt too keen on the Wildcat though. I have yet to try the Black Isle beers but the thought of organic beer is very tempting. A bit further North the Orkney brewery beers are pretty good too. Just avoid the Skull splitter its is well named.
