A bit late starting this year! Apologies. I have been keeping an eye out, needless to say.
Anyway, as it stands at the moment it looks as though Helvellyn is in front for longest-lying snow prospects. This photograph from the 7th March [
www.lakedistrictweatherline.co.uk] shows exceptional cover on the hill, and Brown Cove (which is out-of-shot) will be loaded as well. Certainly it bodes well for possible June survival.
The Pennines haven't done anything like as well, with the majority of the snow confined to the Lakes. This photograph from today [
twitter.com], by Paul Crabtree, shows some deep wreaths, but pretty thin for early March.
There are some good sized patches on the Snowdonia hills, which should last quite a while yet. I'll post up some of these in due course.
Given their low altitude, and the general mildness of winter, the Peak District has no snow left at all.
Of course, let's not forget that some of the biggest storms of the last few years have come in late March, and much can change!
