Anyone know anything about this lift? Possibly GMD Mueller or Van Roll - but can't see a close enough image of the grips.

Seems there were 6 of these at Butlins sites once, they were supplied by the British Ropeway Engineering Company using Van Roll designs and parts. The last two in operation were at Pwllheli and Ayr and shut in 1998.

Impressive. That puts the rather basic shuttling cable car I built from Lego back in the 80's to shame.

Guess both of the Butlins' lifts were installed after the Cliffhanger at Glencoe??

No, the Chairlift at Butlins in Ayr opened in 1959, the Cliffhanger isn't as ancient as most people assume!

i remember the old butlins chair, i think it was minehead i went to rather than ayr though, they had a cool monorail thing there too. I come from a long line of engineering geeks, so holidays tended to be based around chairlifts, railways, steam engines etc.....
