Only if either the Home Road or Shelling Gully is complete or you walk back up hill! And we are talking about what was widely considered the mountain's signature run...

By all accounts from what we've heard the past few days if you need equipment hire, get it off hill or forget CairnGorm.

CML posted:
DUE TO STAFFING & TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES, WE ARE CURRENTLY NOT ABLE TO ACCEPT ANY ONLINE RESERVATIONS FOR EQUIPMENT HIRE. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY RESERVED EQUIPMENT PRIOR TO TODAY (05.04.18) THIS WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE AS STANDARD. WE WILL BE ACCEPTING A LIMITED NUMBER OF WALK-INS BUT CANNOT GUARANTEE AVAILABILITY OF EQUIPMENT.

Cairngorm was cloudy yesterday morning, carparks busy but, just as I was about to head home (not far away) the sun came out and it was a cracking afternoon. It was warm, hardly any wind.
Snow was generally excellent, especially for May and it was top to bottom. It was fairly busy on a couple of tows but you could work round it.
Enormous amount of fresh snow and, even in the afternoon plenty of fresh tracks available.
I did so many "just one more run" that I finished up getting the last uplift on the West Wall Poma, then straight down to the Ciste carpark where my car was, a good end to the day. Cracking day, as good as I've had in Scotland for a good few years.

Our Loch Morlich Webcam is struggling to get any images out, the pathetic BT ADSL from the Cairngorm Exchange which is 0.5mbit at best appears to have practically given up altogether through the Easter Holidays. So much for a universal service obligation for Broadband! eye rolling smiley

Anyone prepared to have a guess at what the queues will be like at Cairngorm on Saturday? Thanks.

Quick poll! Cairngorm or Glenshee tomorrow? Really want to go where the clag is going to clear the quickest. Any thoughts?

Can't say about Cairngorm as we haven't in a while though last time we were there it was more like February(Wednesday 4th)

Glenshee still remains good, better for more experienced skiers. Meall Odhar, Caenlochan and Glas Maol have the best cover right now.

My first day back on the slopes after my trip away and what a day to come back to!
The wind was light, moderate in the afternoon and the sun was out the majority of the time with a little cloud towards the end of the day.

The snow was firm corduroy to start with, not overly icy, controllable. This quickly softened through out the day and if you used the knowledge of the mountain you could hit the areas that softened just right before they went mushy. The Ciste side of the mountain is still delivering. There is quite a bit of snow loss over the mountain though the majority of runs are still wide and deep. The areas suffering are Burn Side, the Day Lodge, Ryvoan and the West Wall. These runs are now closed. The Ciste gully has lost snow width but still a great ski as are the new East Ciste runs.
Gully 1 and its iterations and Black Car Alley are by far the best runs on the mountain. Wide deep and a thrill.

The ptarmigan bowl is getting wet by late afternoon though you can still find good ways back to the t-bar with out any issue. The majority of the upper bowls are wide and easy skiing.

The Coronation Wall softened around lunch time and was very pleasant though about a 2m walk over rock to drop in. Later in the afternoon it did get a bit soft and sticky.

The Lady is in good shape though there is some slumping going on around the lower area near the Shieling.

You can still easily ski to the car park using the car park run. They have pushed snow from burn side to there to keep a rout open. The Fiacaill Ridge poma is still running and the tow path is in good condition.

So few people out on the slopes, no queues at all, anywhere. Not even in the Ptarmigan restaurant, well not much.

The park was in use, picture is in the park thread.

More pictures going up on facebook later.

Upper Bowls still full and wide.

Cas is full and wide. Firm in the morning heavy in the afternoon.

The Aonach Bowl, very nice to ski.

Entrance to the East side of the ciste is well pisted.

Towards the bottom of Black Cat Alley looking into the ciste gully, smooth and steep.

'Over 1000 folk out enjoying conditions on the mountain' You'll be in for another telling off for saying it was very quiet on the slopes. Of course.....most of them were likely just 'cake hunters'....so you'll be right enough [and judging from the numbers in your pictures...you are spot on]

Kind regards

Aye.....Ops 1 claiming that there was 1000, shows that he is overly tired from all these late nights "sexing-up" the Skier Day Numbers for this Season !

The place was dead....Final ! Or should I write Karma ?

Where did the 1000 figure come from

On cairngorm tab here it says over 100 folks

"Saturday 14th April 5.15 pm. Another warm sunny spring day with over a 100 folks up enjoying conditions on the Mountain, and it looks like more of the same tomorrow with a mix of light winds, high cloud, sunny spells and excellent visibility. Still great cover above mid mountain and you can still get back to base level via the Sheiling and Carpark runs. The park is in great shape for tomorrow's Cairngorm Snowboard Club JIb Jam. Updates from 8.00 am and first lifts from 9.00 am. Thanks for coming. Cheers Ops 1"
