I am with Doug Bryce on this matter. Scottish ski resorts are what they are. When they are good they are very, very good but when they are bad they are 'orrid. They are local areas, not "world-class".

In assessing lift ticket values, it is difficult to ignore the considerable investment of Scottish taxpayer monies that provide investment capital for the resort and even a revenue stream for the running costs and administration at some resorts. Thus the customer may pay three-times for using the lifts and tows.

Snowsports have contributed almost £20.5m to the Scottish economy since the start of the latest season, according to VisitScotland. The tourism body said about £16.4m of that figure was money spent on accommodation, shops and fuel.

So the tax payers sees measurable return and there is justifiable case for investment. The obvious problem is that one area has been preferential funded by public purse to detriment of the others. However it is even worse than that : Cairngorm has used this funding to downsize the ski area in futile attempt to become 'house of bruar at 3000ft'.
