Date Posted: 09.40hrs on Tue 19 Mar 19
Hi

Let's keep this one about the snow!!

Grand day on Cairngorm yesterday in perfect weather. Had a wee tour from the top of the lifts up to CG summit then down to Loch Avon via Ciste Mhearad. Grabby snow lower down. Was inbounds all PM.

Public report here: [www.winterhighland.info]

I too was at Cairngorm on Monday and I have rarely had better snow conditions in Scotland.

The carpark T bar was running but not the Sunkid or the Fiacaill Poma.
The Cas was pisted both sides of the uptrack. Further progress up the hill was delayed by a few laps of the Fiacaill Traverse down to the Zigzags on excellent snow. It was pisted but there was plenty of opportunities for off piste here as well.

The M1 Poma upload area was a bit thin with a few brown patches appearing but the uptrack was good.

The Ciste T bar was the only uplift running until about mid day when the West Wall Poma opened.

The Ptarmigan T Bar was not running but the runs above it were being pisted. The boxes for the spring loaded T bar tow ropes were attached to the tow wire but there were no T bars attached to them.
The white Lady was accessed by a narrow corridor between the Ptarmigan Restaurant and the M1 tow. The Lady was about 3 piste basher widths wide at the top going down to 1 basher width wide near the bottom where it funneled into a short steep section which was well scraped by people (including me) side slipped down it.
The Ptarmigan Restaurant was open for toilets, hot and cold drinks and sandwiches etc.but no hot food. There was a distressing lack of chocolate bars for sale and I had to make do with a healthy option. The only black mark of the daysmiling smiley The staff were apparently transported up to the restaurant by skidoo.

The snow conditions lasted very well all day and didn't get too soft even at the carpark.

A great day. Hopefully there will be a few more like it this season.

N.

Took a few pictures before an early finish due to the snow being replaced with glue.

Clear to the top at dusk. Frosty overnight, snow showers pre dawn will intensify as the sun comes up and frontal snow looks like reaching between opening and mid-morning, clearing to showers and some brighter spells afternoon.

Coire Cas and Carpark Tows scheduled to run from 9.30am on Thursday. Deep but baseless fresh snow, with wind moving it around a bit on the lower slopes, whereas Coire Cas was complete so with a good and recently groomed base under all this fresh will give some fantastic turns.

We're heading over to Aviemore this weekend with a mixed group (some total beginners, others happy with reds) and wondered if Cairngorm is worth trying at the moment or should we just head back to the Lecht?

Windy if you are just going to link to facebook then what's the point of sharing it here?

I'm sure all your facebook friends will receive the update.

I used to enjoy your reports after many of the old posters went to facebook.

I've followed this site for 20 years and never posted but it sucks there are never any user reports anymore.

Fair enough that you got insulted by the tread being used for other discussions but aren't you trashing this thread with facebook links?

Many people choose not to use facebook and I really respected and appreciated that you supplied reports in detail on here.

Sorry but you are wrong to see his reports you MUST log on. I have just tested it, and I can see nothing, and I don't have a Facebook account (and will never be getting one).

Thanks for letting me know this as I though they were open to all to view as that is what I have set the permissions to. I will see what I can do. I have set them open to all public so you do not need to "friend" or "follow" to see the report.

I can understand why some people do not want to join facebook but there is a lot about Scottish skiing there, Les and H11LLY often use FB with their reports . Even if you do have to create an account you do not have to sell your soul to the devil, you can give as much or as little information as you want then not post anything, just read.

Any way today had fantastic weather again though the snow is being punished in the heat.

Lots of pictures and report here.
