Unfortunately as of 6pm this evening Glenshee Ski Area has moved into Level 3 covid restrictions. The Ski Area is entirely within Aberdeenshire Council, but part of the Carpark extends into Perth and Kinross, the boundary is at the summit of the Cairnwell Pass at the top of the Slide.

Our understanding is that people may travel from Perth and Kinross to Glenshee along with those resident in Aberdeenshire, but people may not lawfully travel from Aberdeen City. Though Angus is within 5miles (the council boundary is adjacent to the top of the Glas Maol Poma) because Angus is presently in level 2, travel to Glenshee is not permitted.

Unfortunately the horrible weather on Friday and the freezing level being just too high for snow and frost at the lower beginner run level on Saturday, the decision was taken this afternoon not to disturb the machine made snow in mild wet conditions with wet ground surrounding it. If the forecast pans out as it currently is, the intention is to prepare the Plastic Slope Poma run late Sunday for a Monday morning opening.

Does the plastic slope pomas actually have snowflex or something under it, or has that long-since been removed?

The plastic slope was relatively short lived and I think was gone before the Lecht installed their Dendix slope on the Osprey Poma (also since lifted). I believe the Plastic Slope run / Poma area was created at the same time the final approach to the ski area from the North on the A93 was straightened out. I've seen photos of the work on the road but unsure of the dates.

Artifical slopes don't really seem to do to well with the surounding fauna wanting to grow on them

At least Glencoe's is still in very good shape

I went to Midlothian ski slope to warm up my legs back in November and some of the dry slope near the top of the chair are not in good condition at all. Lots of moss and heather growing inbetween.

Depending who you ask the plastic bit either silted up with runoff or blew away. This photo is mid 70s I think, actual plastic was long gone when I first went up in the late 80s.

I really cannae think of any fauna that grow on plastic, grow through or eat it either. There's a bacteria been found that eats it.

Midlothian ski slope sounds like it has an issue with plants, adding some vinegar and salt if the watering system can handle it would help out with the flaura growing through them.

I didn't think Midlothian slope had a sprinkler system, well, at least I couldn't see any nozzles present. A garden sprayer would do the trick with some weedkiller.

It’s just a shame you cannot buy a parking ticket on the day, tried this morning and Tuesday was only option. It guess the need to control numbers, but thought that only applied to lift served skiers

Why does the Meall Odhar T-bar show up in Glenshee's list of lifts on the VisitScotland website? It hasn't been operational for years and all the cables have long been removed.

Pretty sure the "data field" is re-purposed as the rope tow next to the Dink Dink. No idea what the issue is to displaying the correct lift name, I'm sure Alan can explain, but I think there's a third party or some middleware that sits between what Glenshee want to declare and what we read. Pretty annoying though in this day and age, but I'd hope it's beyond the control of Glenshee and/or Winterhighland.

Glenshee website says "Tickets to be booked online anytime up to arrival.
Equipment Hire MUST be booked online by 1pm THE DAY BEFORE arrival".

I bought a car park ticket at 11pm and rocked up the next at 8.30am next day. The guy in the car park assumed we hadn't booked anything in advance and offered the option to pay £5 there and then (he was entirely content when I showed him email confirmation of advance purchase). But his actions showed that they were willing to charge on spec.....which begs the question how they verify where people have travelled from.

Yes someone needs to capture this important bit of Scottish history. Would be good to use the media and put together a YouTube presentation with link from the Glenshee website. Important to understand where the areas s snow sports heritage has come from and to remember some of the key players and beneficiaries.
