Glencoe Snow 2025
Date Posted: 00.23hrs on Fri 22 Nov 24
Time for a new thread as the mountain is looking whiter this afternoon and potentially significant snowfall, storm or hurricane force winds, then thaw/freeze, then more snow as the second named storm of the season rolls in this weekend.

Storm Bert will potentially bring 20 to 40cm of snow to parts of the Central Highlands, the amber warning area just missed Glencoe ski area, but this is based on disruption potential - not necessarily where the heaviest mountain snowfalls will occur.

Eyes on the cameras and weather stations (and that new summit mast)!

Though the sledge park machine made snow piles and large drifts have not yet been dozed out, there is decent sledging on the Access Return path from beside the snow factory down onto the flat area below the Coire Pollach Tow. It's about a 5 minute walk from the Top of the Access Chair.

If you can get up Friday or Saturday, then go for it! Sadly Sunday looks like a write off, and the weather is probably going to write off the early season skiable snow cover too on Sunday and Monday!

Stonking inversion at dusk on Thursday, this has since broken down with the temperature going sub-zero at the summit and now colder than at the base, -1°c vs 0°c. Some snow flurries possible Friday, mix of sunny spells and snow showers on Saturday.

Rannoch Chair is operating serving Rankins Return, Low Road, Plateau Run, Old Mugs Alley / Access Return (use the Coire Pollach Tow Track to get onto Old Mugs Alley).

A new camera has been added at the Top of the Rannoch Chairlift, which gives various potential views across the plateau area and to the vistas beyond when visibility allows - thus this view is not necessarily fixed. smiling smiley

Unfortunately the summit weather station was damaged in a thunderstorm late December and is currently only sending out very intermittent temperature data. Temperature data is valid when it appears, but ignore anything else from the summit AWS! sad smiley

You can tell from the Rannoch Chair webcam that it was windy last night, lot of drifting, but just not enough snow on the ground or falling to fill anything in as yet. Sledge Park looking healthier again after a pounding yesterday!

^View over the Plateau from the top of the Rannoch Chair.

^Sledge Park refreshed with overnight showers / drifting and top up of machine made snow.

Glencoe will resume it's snowsports season on Sundy with the Cliffhanger Chairlift making its season debut mid-mountain. All Plateau runs are complete with machine packed fresh snow and a top up due tonight.

Scheduled to operate from 10am (later start due to forecast for high winds till dawn):

Access Chair
Plateau Poma
Coire Pollach Tow
Cliffhanger Chair

The Rannoch Triple Chair may operate later in the day, but is subject to ongoing repairs to storm damage from Eowyn on Friday.

Today is the last day before the weather breaks down - its clear to the top. Frustratingly, if it was a snow storm incoming would be on the cusp of Glencoe being fully open!
