Guys, what if any effort is expanded trying to clear snow off the road or if any access is required do they just use the Kassbohrer if there is any snow about?

Any scope for getting a fenced run all the way down the radar road on the basis of persuading NATS or whoever that such snow fencing placed correctly would significantly reduce snow on the road?

Anjo is the one who's given his all to this for the past year. Compared to him, I'm a newby part-timer but I do enjoy taking photographs of the progress. Loads of people are mucking in from the villages, from the rest of Scotland, and even some from England too. Without their help, digging & carrying in often horrid weather, loaning their own plant and machinery, the metalworking, the chippying, donations etc, the whole thing would still be a pipe-dream.

So close now, and if the club can get enough folk to the work parties this weekend, it might not be long before the rope tow spins on Lowther Hill for the first time.

We are liable for any damage done to the road, so we have to be extremely careful with the use of snowploughs.

A fenced run all the way down the radar road (which is on the neighbouring Estate) is not likely to happen in the short term (long story, but nothing to do with NATS).

Right then folks, the snow is falling again, and we've come-a-begging. :-P We're doing a crowd funder for our very own Alan, the master of Scottish mountain webcams and weather stations to do us an installation on Lowther Hill. So we're looking to get enough weather geeks, ski freaks, and webcam peepers to cough up a few quid to get this installed ASAP. If we go over our goal, any leftovers will help us buy a few more metres of portable snow fencing.

I've used 'justgiving' as most of us in the UK know & trust the site. Sadly, unlike the US crowdfunding sites, there's no paypal option but justgiving charge us less fees, and it only takes a minute to stick in your card details anyway.

Just a wee bump, please keep it coming. The more cash we can get, and the sooner we can get it, the quicker we can get the cam and weather station up, and use any leftovers to buy more snow fencing.

This is part of Weardale's power generation provision for similar functionality ...

The effort made to get a ski tow up and running on Lowther Hill has been superb and the addition of a Webcam and Automatic Weather Station will be a great enhancement. Only another £60 is needed to reach the £1500 target so if anyone can spare a few quid.....it would then be possible for the equipment to be purchased and it all to go online...soon.

Thanks ever so much to all the winterhighlanders who've made such generous contributions to Lowther Hills Ski Club to fund the webcams & weather station. It's really lifted our spirits to have so many people willing to contribute to the project. Absolutely brilliant !! :-)

Great stuff and be good to see the Lowther snow in time when its all up and running esp with winter set to make a comeback shortly.

Did you happen to find out what is powered by the Wear sale solar panel? (Don't think there's power in the hut??) (By the way, may be popping up there tomorrow to go ski touring if the snow comes through the ongoing 24 hour savage thaw...)

Weardale power a couple of webcams and weather stations from that setup.

Busy couple of days on the hill, but the weather was with us and we finished building the ski tow today. The only club run, volunteer built ski field north of Hadrian's Wall, and probably the only ski lifts in the UK that haven't received any public funding are about ready to rock and roll
