Went along this afternoon. Wind had dropped, sun was out, no queues. Conditions on piste are excellent. It opened out to Coire Fionn for the last hour or so.

Bill the ski patrol boy said Glas Maol needs more snow so they can piste centre gulley without trashing the ground.....and today's wind didn't help as it was just blowing snow off the runs. One dump and it should be sorted though. No bars on the line but I understand this is a quick job. And there's no point putting them on in advance as they will I assume just get iced up.

But even without Glas Maol, Glenshee was great today. Lots of nice powder stashes if you went looking for them.

Mega effort by Glenshee. Wednesday didn't really deliver the promised snow fall and by Thursday the runs were pretty messy. They've worked tirelessly to restore order and today was incredible. Hats off to all concerned. Grroming was outstanding and the whole place has jist upped it's game. Bravo

Any idea what’s going on with the meal odhar and caenlochan pomas? And more importantly, Glas Maol?

The Caenlochan Poma is unlikely to run again this season. Unsure what happened but heard rumour it was customer abuse late afternoon yesterday that caused damage to the Meall Odhar Poma and it too is out of action, though it should be fixable in the not too distant future (day or 2 suggested rather than many days or weeks).

What makes you think caenlochan wont run again this season? I heard the gearbox was knackard so they’ll likely be waiting on a new one from poma and they’ll have it running again once it arrives.

And it will be a miracle if it arrives this season!

Good day of touring around the edges of Glenshee today, Sunday, despite reducing visibility as the day went on. Excellent snow on the two main Glas Maol gullies, 3-4" of powder on a firm base but you need to keep your eyes peeled for a couple of unusual, quite large wind ridges that act like small cornices. Below them tends to have the deepest soft snow, so all in, some very rewarding skiing.
Had a look at Garbh Coire betweem banks of mist rolling but it is chocked with avalanche debris and in many areas is surprisingly poorly covered, so we turned back and did a second lap on the steeper GM gully on beautiful snow instead.

Traversed back from Coire Fionn on kicker skins, coming back round to the area at the base of the Tom Dearg lift. That whole zone, the gently curved ridge between the Coire Fionn red and skiers' right of the Home Run piste is absolutely plastered and would make a very good area to teach off-piste and skinning skills to newcomers.

Glas Maol has now had some pisting work done on the uptrack but the recent wind has negated some of it by pushing a lot of snow onto the line just above the dog-leg, plus the towers higher up are very heavily iced. Cable is only just clear of the snow in a couple of spots which tells volumes about depths.
Pistey beasty was working by the bottom of the GM poma when we left.

Had a pleasant chat with one of the regular lifties about skinning, no stress and no 'orders' issued either.

Can't they pinch one of another lift (eg Cluny or Plastic slope)? Or does the Caenlochan need a different type because it's longer?
