HSE have closed the WWP & Corie Na Ciste as they are not safe...all due to lack of maintenance by NR...


I wonder how much of the impending engineers report will be redacted as HIE try to hide the lack of upkeep by NR from the public??


HIE should be shot...BUT unfortunately they own the whole lot & they are the Gov body to get funding from to pay for it & pay for the repairs etc....so unless someone else has the £50million to buy plus the £10 million to fix & the £27million to do the future planned work then forget about doing without HIE...!!

Actually the specific individuals in HIE should be fired. Well you can't directly do that but they should be put on written notice for lack of competence in their job for failing to oversee the NR franchise contract. Lack of improvement would then be grounds for sacking.

HIE as a whole...the Scot Gov was bullied into not disbanding these corrupt enterprise companies a few years ago..

& I speak from personal experience with them as a business...I was involved with them & if you can give a fancy powerpoint presentation full of marketing BS based on thin air (little if any facts) they will throw money at you....

go in with a fact based project that is a slow but long term earner with solid foundations.....forget it...

Here is what HSE had to say on one of the 'improvement notices': ''You have failed to ensure that there are appropriate arrangements in place for effective planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review of the preventative measures required to maintain the structural integrity of the tow systems installed at the Cairngorm Ski Area. As a result, the condition of work equipment, in particular the West Wall Poma Drive Station, has deteriorated to such an extent that persons using the tow may be placed at risk''

Well that's it folks & as we all suspected...the train set ain't running this summer or for the foreseeable future...

Basically HIE have still not released the report as I recon they have run out of black marker pen to redact the worst bits..

The Funicular will remain closed through the summer at least. HIE are arranging a peer review of the engineering report whic will then be used to work out solutions and costs.

Given the funicular requires a good ski season to pay for its year round operating costs it has become clear it is a millstone around the mountain operators neck rather than the line we were pedalled for years that the Funiculsr was the core business and paid for skiing being provided as a service.

Therefore it seems certain that the funicular requires ongoing subsidy over and above whatever remedial structural works are required. We believe the control systems are also obsolete and will be end of life for support next year and another £1m plus cost there reportedly.

It must not be fix the funicular at any cost. The unthinkable is not unthinkable anymore!

I agree, but I dread to think how much it will cost - and how long it will take - to decommission the damned thing and re-instate the mountainside.

How about getting Glenshee or Glencoes 2nd hand chairlift installation team to give a quote?
