What is it with people in shabby or cheap clothing on the slopes?

They disgust me to be honest, have they no shame? When I'm up the cairngorm and find myself standing next to some cheaply dressed oik on the train, I can feel their shame. I try not to look at them because they must already be feeling inferior when they look at my new expensive gear

These people need to try harder

Exactly, have you seen the guy at Nevis Range with a CalMac jacket on? I even heard him saying "Tha an sgioba a' cur fàilte oirbh air bòrd an t-aiseag Monadh Nibheis". I mean, c'mon!

Snowboarding probably has more cool points, though my feeling is that is more to do with piggybacking on the cultural history of other cool "standing sideways" sports such as surfing and skateboarding. Either way, if you are the kind of person that needs to ask, you fall firmly in the deeply uncool category and will remain there forever more, no matter your chosen method of sliding down hills.

this thread is a joke! someones definition of cool is different to someone elses definition of cool! grumpy may feel cooler being a boarder but hey thats fine but im sure theres a swing back to skiing being cooler! i ski with boarders and couldnt give a t8ss if we look cool or not in expensive or as grumpy says cheap clothes! Its how you ski and board that matters and i can take a guess that grumpy ISNT a cool boarder hence why hes asking what is cooler!!

People who are up their own arse are at least a million miles from cool. Looking cool and being cool are not the same thing.

You must be joking Grumpy

Also can I just say how pointless this thread is: very!

I'm a boarder, nothing in the world would make me strap on the sticks of shame. Snowboarding is cooler than skiing, the vibe is better, you get to wear better clothes and more importantly you get more chicks when you're a boarder

Skiers tend to be self absorbed, uptight, middle class people who are not as friendly

Skiing is what people to who can't snowboard

Skiing is faster and technically superior. That aside, I think any historical generalisations about either are pretty redundant now. I will never strap a board on but if that's someones preference fair play to them. At least they're out there doing some sort of sliding.
