Still early, don't bring up new boards or skis when it dumps and they open. Usually a good bit up top at Glencoe by now though....

There's nothing else to cross now: fingers, toes, ears (ok, not ears), voodoo charm in place... c'mon the snow.

Unfortunately the warm spikes in the operational run on yesterdays 12z are still there this morning, the later one not being picked up in the ensemble set. The operational run is run at higher resolution so worth comparing to the control run, which is initialised with the same time point and data set as the operational but at ensemble resolution.

Shortwave troughs that can cut off cold and sweep warm sectors across us can be too small to be resolved in the lower resolution ensemble runs past a few days out, so the roller coaster ride suggested by the operational runs of the GFS looks more probable.

That isn't a bad thing necessarily - a run of storm cycles with freeze / thaw consolidation would help get a base down providing we get a net gain each cycle and not a few hours of cold with a dusting behind the front only to see it wiped out by the next warm front with above summit freezing levels and lashing rain!

Er...all Greek to me but presumably summarised as:

"DOOOOOOMED!"

I am just back from St Anton. Go there and forget about any skiing here until it properly snows!

Yes your right DonaldM crazy amounts of snow in St Anton, more to come over next few days with possibly up to 2 metres of snow in Austria, but we should be back in cold zonality from mid week, and hopefully a sustained cold spell with lots of snow for Scottish ski centres.

Looking good from Wednesday onwards (touch wood). Anyone think the Cairngorm might have substantial skiing by Friday? Would probably depend on whether there is enough snow for the M1 to get you up to the Ciste Bowl.

Snow-forecast reckons not much snow to drop over the next few days. I know its sooo unreliable, but would have been nice to see a lot higher numbers shown

Snow-forecast is highly inaccurate, the thing with Scottish weather its very unpredictable, precipitation wise its hard to estimate but hopefully the weather will favour Scottish ski centres with lots of snow in coming days.
