Challenging driving conditions on the A9 especially between Dalwhinnie and Drumtochter Summit. A few accidents and plenty of stuck cars at junctionsome!

It's hard not to appear dismissive or unsympathetic but really, get some winter tyres, please.

Please save yourself from yourself and get a grip, literally.

These are challenging conditions more so as most people are not equipped!

Couldn't agree more, that's why our motor already has a full set of winter tyres. and is well maintained

When I clicked those picture links, I was expecting to see 'challenging conditions', not tarmac and a bit of slush. The Highlanders must be going a bit soft if they're finding that a challenge ! :-P

Well it was a challenge for some people who were poorly equipped hence the reason why there were lots of people getting stuck and some accidents were occurring

And if that's too much effort fit some Cross Climates or similar.

I be just done a tyre check on the first 20 vehicles in the queue at the Spittal of Glenshee. 16 on summer tyres, 4 on winters. This on vehicles driven by skiers queuing to use a road which everyone knows gets closed due to snow.

and those drivers are partly the reason why the gate isnt open. they have to remove practically every flake of snow before they will open gate so that ill equipped drivers can get up the slide

A number of vehicles went through the closed snow gates at Spittal this morning, I assume having legitimate business beyond the gates. It would be nice to think there would be scope for a certification scheme where say season pass holders with a vehicle with winter tyres are able to pass through the gates - but unfortunately I cannot see it happening.

I don't think the issue was the road by midday, it was the carpark that needed clearing. The road was clear and even the lay-bys had been snow-blown clear.

There is a huge difference in time and effort (and in the chances of success) in getting a mountain road passable and getting it 'back to black', but the number of vehicles for which black is required to be passable seems to be increasing year on year. This has has significant consequences for the income potential of the East Coast ski areas.

It would be interesting to relate the rage factor to tyre type. I bet the summer tyre people are more likely to blame the authorities for not clearing the road to the requirements of summer tyres.

How does it work in the Alps with these winter rated tyres when the police are enforcing chains etc? Do they let people through with that type of tyre or do they still insist on chains or socks too?
