looks like the models are teasing us with a northerly at the current time. GSF modelled it a few runs in a row so must be seeing something to take bite at. Decent bit of agreement with the models at the 144hr timeframe aswell, so as HTH said above, the 7th is the date to watch. How much snow drops....is the clincher with some models reckoning a snow-magedden for the UK from a low thats due to track down the English Channel (according to the GFS 18z).

Think a key point for cold is the positioning of the dot of low pressure off the west of the US of A. Providing he doesnt track too far East, then it allows the higher pressure from the Azores to track up NW into Greenland which will bring the cold down for us in the UK.

I'd have thought a turbulent problematic cold low would be female and a chilled out high would be male?

looking very warm indeed Sunday-Thursday next week. 8 Degrees at Munro level! will the snow survive. Be gutted if Coe ends up back at square 1.

No not again I hope the dreaded SW are not as mild as forecast, This will definitely strip most of the snow on the hills, since Cairngorm and Glencoe mountain have the snow factory it will be interesting to see how much snow these machines will produce to patch up the runs.

on the plus side... more chance of the Factory getting up the hill at Glencoe with the inevitable low level melt. Met office seem optimistic, hopefully a consolidation melt for the upper mountain base rather than a massacre.

I dont think itll be back to square one.Probably wipe out a lot of snow but the deeper gullies should be ok. Remember it's very early season, esp in the west. Get out and enjoy it while it's here.

Its a real shame after such a good start ie base building weather.
We are now looking at a warm spell and possible loss of xmas ski market.
One or two ski resorts really need this market and i feel without this they could go under! lets hope winter returns ?

Hopefully it comes....but anything part of 2017 might be slim chance.

There is one or 2 waves of cold 850s that cross top of Scotland, but way out in FI.

One good thing about a wee bit of rain, it shows where the good depth of snow is - and at present it does not look too bad at Glencoe, and The Lecht is up and running.
The question I would like to know is whether it will still be sufficient at the Lecht for the Skimo race on the 30th.
