Could be huge amounts of snow in the highlands if the latest runs verify.

-8 hpa air coming across the Atlantic Ocean would bring plenty of heavy snow showers with very severe drifting in the strong winds

Aye, looks like the west especially will do well next week if snow-forecast is to be believed. At least this cold spell looks set to continue smiling smiley

Cant wait to get up to the West next week if the weather forecasts deliver lots of snow, The west has already the best base and is perfectly set up for powder.

Hoping the wind is good for thursday and friday for Glencoe. Whether charts have it about 50km/h and met office reckon gusts of 30mph so should be good. Just need a day or 2 more before booking!

Winds/atlantic storm low now tracking much further south on the latest GFS 18z run and been a continuing trend throughout the day and less depth on the lows. met office still think its going to head through south scotland though so another days modelling should be a bit closer.

"One experiment in China in 2009 forced the authorities to close 12 highways around Beijing when snow caused by cloud seeding fell heavily."

hilarious. Least we would have someone to blame for the A82 then...

Weather forecasts suggesting a mild dip on the way by the weekend, With sudden stratospheric warming taking place, it should increase the chances of cold easterlies, fingers crossed.

Some seriously cold scenarios appearing in the forecast model ensembles, one to watch for sure. For the weekend, its all about placement of the high and resultant wind / cloud. On balance it will probably get warm aloft by Sunday, but under inversion conditions it wouldn't matter and the finer detail for Sunday into the new week still needs to be settled.

A strong inversion with unbroken Sunshine above on the mountains, warm (for this time of year) temperatures and low dew points keeping the snow fresh with light winds, it's not too much to ask for is it? tongue sticking out smiley
